“Battle for the California Desert: Why is the Government Driving Folks off Their Land?”

While the NY Times writes cultural puff pieces about Pioneertown and the scene in Joshua Tree attracting folks from LA and Silicon Valley and NYC, the good folks at the New, Weird West would like to present you with another side of the California Desert story. The war against Desert Rats. I have been playing Pappy & Harriet’s for 15 years. The first time I played down there Harriet and her daughter Cheryl showed up and took seats up front. They put me on the couch that night and made me feel like family. Pioneertown has long been on this Coyote’s nomadic homing circuit. I get it. Lets be careful to always respect the Natives.
